Our Movement Philosophy

We believe that physical, mental, emotional, and community health are connected. That there’s power in moving our bodies in diverse ways. That a positive and supportive environment can be transformative. We believe in providing grounded, accessible, and creative instruction in every single class, workshop, and event.

Why Atrium?

Our name is inspired by how we want to show up for our community. We chose the name “Atrium” because it has two meanings: a central gathering place and a chamber of the heart.

In anatomy, the right atrium of the heart collects deoxygenated blood for return to the lungs. The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs for distribution back into the body.

We believe that’s the perfect metaphor for our role in our members’ lives.

Atrium isn’t just a fitness studio or events venue. It’s a gathering place for you to be nourished, revitalized, and strengthened. Here, you can take time for yourself to “re-oxygenate” on both a mental and physical level before carrying those benefits back into your community.

FAQs

Showing up to your first class in a new building can be confusing and intimidating. Here is our attempt at taking the guess-work out of it. These are all the details we anticipate you might want to know before your first class or workshop!

Please let us know if there’s anything else that would be helpful to add here so we can improve your experience at Atrium.

  • Purchase the new member special and then click on the class you want to take on the Class Schedule page. Please register for your first class at least 24 hours in advance so your instructor has enough notice to show up a little early and answer any of your questions. Continue to do this until you feel comfortable, especially for the first time you take a different style of class or have a new instructor.

*Note that it’s good practice to sign up for classes ahead of time anyway, since there are limited spots available in each class.

  • Each class will list the recommended gear you need to bring from home. Standard in all classes is a water bottle and a sweat towel. Most also recommend a mat. Please note that our studios have a no-shoes policy both because it is good practice for your body’s strength and biomechanics, and it also keeps the floors clean of dirt and dog poop! If you would feel more comfortable in shoes, please bring a pair that is for class-use only and are not worn outdoors. Socks with grip on the bottom are also okay. Otherwise, wear whatever you feel comfortable in!

*Optional gear to bring: a bath towel & toiletries for the shower (we provide soap) and a small padlock if you prefer to lock things in our small lockers.

  • Our front desk is currently staffed from 8:30-8:30 on Monday Tuesday, and Wednesday and 8:30-1:30 on Fridays. If you have class during those hours you will check in at the front desk and they will help check you in, show you around, and answer any questions you may have. If your class falls outside those hours your instructor will meet you at the front desk to check you in and orient you to the studio.

  • All bodies are different. All clothes are different. All backgrounds are different. We celebrate all types of movement and all types of people. You can be you here.

Unless otherwise specified, all our classes are designed to be taken by new and experienced members together. Our team of quality instructors will scale different movements, poses, or choreography to each individual’s ability level through demonstration and/or cueing.
